Slight Ventifact

“Slight Ventifact”
Acrylic, graphite, pastel powder on panel
12 x 12 x 0.75 inches, framed at 14 x 14 x 2 inches
Sold
I find the mushroom ventifact a powerful symbol of potential energy. The heavy top portion of the rock remains aloft until wind closer to the earth’s surface erodes the spindle.
Using a wood panel as a surface lets me draw strong pencil lines onto my paintings. I sanded several layers of paint to start the desert-inspired surface and left the powdered pastel sprinkles visible like dust.
This painting is part of Susan’s solo exhibition “Potential Energy”.
