In the early phases of my painting process, I work the entire surface of the painting at once. As I build up layers, I may see images in the color forms that I didn’t consciously include.
I started this painting solely as the portrayal of the potential energy of a bubble rising up underwater. As the layers progressed, I saw the bubble also as a mini-universe. I delight in the idea that all these bubbles are individual universes.
This painting is part of Susan’s solo exhibition “Potential Energy”.
