Rocks may be source of strength, but are obstacles to plant growth. Using a self-reinforcing chemical cycle, roots figure out how to grow around rocks. When roots come across an obstacle, they feel their way around until they find a path where they may continue to grow.
In this painting, the cutaway view shows the determination of a young seedling growing among rocks. I relate to running into obstacles and finding ways to work around them.
This painting is part of Susan’s solo exhibition “Potential Energy”.
