As a child, I spent many hours gazing toward the sun while underwater in the swimming pool. The play of refracted sunlight, water waves, and air bubbles still fascinates me.
I built many layers to capture the depth of the water using thick paint, transparent glazes, liquidy paint pours, brush strokes in wave patterns, hand-made collaged paint patterns, and circle stamps from the mouths of jars.
This painting is part of Susan’s solo exhibition “Potential Energy”.
