I build underpaintings with multiple layers of thick paint followed by gouging, sanding, and glazing. The initial surface of this painting was so beautiful and complex I left it as-is for weeks while I pondered how to realize the potential of the surface.
When I was ready, I added adelicate cloud puff drawing to this richly worn surface, and accented the cloud with powdered color and drawn stitches. Aged, but still graceful, like an elegant dame.
